Blurred Lines

Location: North Perth

Status: Completed, October 2013

This residence demonstrates how thoughtful design can unlock the full potential of inner-city living. Despite its compact footprint, the project shows that a small site need not limit functionality, comfort, or presence. The brief centred on creating an entertainer-focused home with flexible spaces that could adapt to everyday living as well as social occasions.

Located on a modest 240 m² block in North Perth, the design was shaped by the client’s desire to achieve the functionality of a conventional four-bedroom, two-bathroom suburban home within a far tighter envelope. Meeting this requirement demanded a rigorous approach to spatial planning, circulation, and storage, ensuring that every square metre contributed meaningfully to the overall experience.

The result is a home that balances generosity with efficiency — delivering spaces that feel open and considered while remaining practical and cost-conscious. Through careful proportion, light management, and spatial layering, the interiors achieve a sense of scale that belies the compact site, creating a residence that is both highly usable and visually engaging.
